As your writing coach, I will help you set realistic goals, find the right planning strategies, and set up a schedule of writing and feedback. As we work together, I will provide constructive criticism and support while also asking the questions that will keep you going with your book. Together we will confront the obstacles—emotional, practical, and literary—that present themselves in longer projects, and find ways of overcoming them.
If you already have a completed manuscript, I can provide a developmental edit to make your work really sing. I will work closely with you to understand your goals for your book, identify the best methods for achieving those goals, and hone and polish the final manuscript. I work from a place of compassion and curiosity, striving first to understand your vision, and then providing the critique, feedback, and questions that will help you realize that vision.
Over twenty-five years of writing, publishing, and teaching I have come to a deep understanding and love of the writing and the editing process. With twenty-five published novels that have won awards and gained critical acclaim, I’ve absorbed the methods and practices of some of the best editors in the business. In over twenty years of teaching in colleges and private classes, I have acquired the skills to help bring each writer’s vision to the page in private sessions and intensive developmental editing.
My approach is constructive, supportive, and interrogative. By asking the right questions, I help the writer dig deeper into their own intentions and find the right strategies to create the work they envision. Writing can be a lonely business, but I will provide the support and guidance so you don’t have to go it alone.
